Things to Spice up your Barangay Stay

The barangay is basically the most general Filipino term of a community. It’s a place that you’d grow in, where you can possibly meet some of your life-long friends. So it’s going to be a safe and promising best to make the most out of your stay in these gathering of families. Here are a few tips on fostering trust and camaraderie in your barangay:

Say Hi to your Neighbors
Sometimes, a simple Hello is all there is to start something great. Greeting your barangay neighbors, no matter how old or distant they may be, cam help you build up much-needed rapport and friendship in your community. It’s a fun activity to do that will not only let you win new friends – it will also help you build up your self-esteem, making you more confident in dealing with other people.

Help Can Go A Long Way
Typical Filipino families would normally have some household helps. But there are those that opt not to have one, either because of financial constraints or they would just want to live independently. Whatever the case, it always comes as a breath of fresh air when help is offered. Anything as simple like mowing the lawn, taking dogs for walks, even sweeping some dead leaves out in the driveway or street, can help build trust among one another. Always ask and check if any of your barangay neighbors are in need of help – you never know if they do need one. More often than not, they’ll appreciate your efforts and time on helping out.

We are Family
A group of people clustered together, for a rather long span of time, can be considered as a family. The barangay is technically a family! By treating your barangay neighbors as family members, you’ll get to create a closely-knitted bond among one another. No one gets left out, making this a great way of sticking together in both times of trouble and joy.

The barangay, rather than a group or compound of houses stringed together, can also be seen as a group of individuals living and working together. Getting to know each other by simply acknowledging their presence can help people speak up. Helping, even for the most menial of chores, will help bridge more trust. And treating everyone as one large family will eventually transform the idea into reality. Enjoy being in your barangay, and make sure to say hi to your neighbor!
